White bean hummus “a la fogoncito”!

Hello friends and fellow foodies!

For some time I’ve been thinking about a hummus recipe. Although we’re not vegetarian (not by a mile) we’re vegetarian food lovers and frequently have vegetarian meals.

I have always loved grains and looooove beans (as should everyone who calls himself Dominican!) white beans are one of my favorite varieties, which is why I found it an interesting ingredient to add when creating my own hummus version.

White bean hummus

Hummus is generally prepared with chickpeas, but hummus varieties are as numerous as people that prepare them. Basically, every person that prepares hummus has their own recipe. Today I share mine, in the spirit that you also feel in the freedom of varying it according to your likes.

Hummus has oriental origins (Arabic, Jewish, Turkish, Greek, etc.) it is essentially a puree made with chickpeas, lemon juice, tahini (sésamo pasta) and olive oil.

Enjoy!

Ingredients 

  • 1 can of chickpeas.
  • 1 can of white beans.
  • 1 spoonful of Paprika.
  • 1 teaspoon of Tahini.
  • ½ White onion (chopped and stir fried in butter, then drained)
  • 1 spoonful of garlic paste. (natural. Just blend garlic with a bit of olive oil in your blender)
  • Chives (chopped, reserve for the end)
  • 2 spoonfuls of olive oil. (if you need feel free!)
  • The juice of a big lemon
  • Salt to taste.
  • Secret ingredient: 1 teaspoon of peanut butter.
  • Pita Bread (toasted. to serve hummus on it)

Directions.

Process all ingredients in the food processor and serve on pita bread. Sprinkle the chopped chives, close and sprinkle some more over it.
