Hello friends and fellow foodies!
Today I share a very simple and tasty recipe. It’s a very common street food generally served with fried fish or meat.
Deep fried sweet potatoes are very popular in the Caribbean. I know for a fact that my Puerto Rican siblings love it and I’ve actually tasted it there myself! (I actually do have some Puerto Rican blood, just don’t tell anyone)
Deep fried sweet potatoes are fairly easy to prepare but there are some tricks to make them crispier and tastier that I share with you today!
Ingredients
- Caribbean sweet potatoes (green sweet potatoes)
- Water
- Garlic
- Salt.
Directions
Peel, cut and slice your sweet potatoes.
Mash some garlic. Fill a bowl with water and add some salt and the garlic. Let the sweet potatoes soak for 15-30 minutes and then fry in abundant hot oil. They should be crispy but juicy inside.
Enjoy and don’t go far as we’re cooking something really good that we’ll share soon!

Sounds good! I just don’t know where to find Caribbean sweet potatoes…
I know! I just asked an American friend yesterday and confirmed what I suspected: They’re hard to find. The good news is you can use regular sweet potatoes!
The first time I came across the sweet potatoes you find in US I was like: what are these? as I had always known sweet potatoes to be green. The taste is almost the same though. So no worries! 🙂
I’m a big fan of sweet potatoes and these sound delicious!
I’ll try frying some of your sweet potatoes when we visit in Christmas! 🙂
