The search for the lost auyama!
(Dominican squash)
Hello friends and fellow foodies!
The last weeks have been a bit hectic as we have been devoting time to our farming project as well as to our newest book.
As you know, our last harvest gave us excellent “auyamas” (Dominican squash or pumpkin) that sold very quickly. Dominicans love their auyama, so we found ourselves very quickly with more clients than auyama to sell. Our second trip was almost sold out before we got back.
I don’t even know how to tell friends that we decided not to continue (at least commercially) with the auyamas for now. Yes, we have kept a few for family mainly, but that one is very hard to explain!
The thing is, one of our most active and faithful fan, has been having terrible auyama cravings and living in Florida doesn’t make it any easier. Since mom was travelling to be with her for the delivery, uncle me had to schedule an extra trip to the farm (just under 500 km trip) I hope my new niece appreciates the efforts!
I share with you, the trip in search of this, rather elusive auyama. Gladly we still had a few healthy vines and were able to find some nice auyamas.
Stay close. In the following days we have new recipes and a gift, just for our faithful readers (We will announce it here only!) Facebook, twitter & instagram friends will their something something later.
A big hug from the warm Caribbean!
Arturo
